I finished another one of Baby T’s gifts yesterday:
Since Baby T is a New York baby, I wanted to make him something a little bit sophisticated. The gray yarn and the wrap style seemed like a perfect combination, don’t you think? I found the cutest little wooden teddy-bear buttons, which keeps the sweater looking just sweet enough.
I originally wanted to put the button on the right side of the sweater, but in my over-eagerness to complete the project, I seamed it backwards. Luckily with this style of sweater, which way it closes doesn’t really matter! I also intentionally placed the button towards more towards the middle – Baby T is trending to be a big, roly-poly Italian baby (1 lb. ahead of schedule!) and wanted to make sure he had the extra room on the sides.
Here are the specifics:
- Pattern: Garter Stitch Wrap Top by Erika Knight
- Source: Simple Knits for Cherished Babies
- Yarn: Berroco Comfort in Dusk (9713)
- Needles: Size US 5
- Size Knit: 3-6 months
Now, this particular color of Berroco Comfort was unusually felty, so I am hoping it wears well. Erika’s pattern has the sweater closing with a ribbon tie, but I thought that the button closure would be more boy-appropriate. To modify the pattern to include the button hole:
At the end of the left front shaping, when it says to knit the additional rows without shaping:
-Knit the first 2 rows as usual.
-On Row 3: Knit to last 3 stitches, YO, k2tog, k1.
-Continue knitting the remainder of the rows as directed by the pattern.
Heading up to NY this weekend for a wedding – will do lots of baby knitting in the car…maybe matching booties and a hat…
Have a good weekend! ~Jenny
Love this! and the button! OH and the yarn too – I’ve used it for a few projects.
(must go mark to my favs in Ravelry)
I have an extra button if you want one for Baby Will… 🙂
I would love to see a pattern like this for a woman’s long sleeved wrap sweater. I am a beginner knitter and this looks like something I can do.
