One day last year, my son came home from school and said to me, “Mom, I like a girl in my class.” I asked him to tell me about her, and this is what he said:
“Well, she is very smart and quiet, and she has long yellow hair and her eyes are blue – blue like blueberries.”
Needless to say, that very sentence melted my heart. I thought the way he described her was amazingly sweet – yellow hair and eyes blue like blueberries – just perfect.
Anyway, Ben also has big blueberry eyes, which is why I picked this color for his winter scarf – it really makes them look extra bright.
The pattern is so easy, just your basic k2, p2 repeat, but in case you want the specifics:
- Yarn: Classic Elite Yarns Solstice (70% organic cotton/30% merino wool) Colorway: 2324 Blue Moon
- Needles: US size 8
- CO 36 stitches
- Row 1: *k2, p2* repeat * to end
- Repeat Row 1 until scarf is desired length
- BO in rib stitch and weave in ends
My scarf ended up being 45″ long, a good length for a skinny 8 year old. The yarn is nice and soft, and Ben liked the way it felt on his sensitive skin. All wool would have made him an itchy boy, so at least I know he’ll be able to wear this without complaining.
As for the other projects in progress, I am almost finished Jaime’s birthday present, it just needs its ends woven in and some buttons. The matching travel wristlets are finished and are in need of photographing. I’ll definitely share those next week. I am about 1/3 of the way through a striped scarf for my stepson, and later today I am going to cast on a pair of Susie’s Reading Mitts for Ben’s teacher. There are still so many projects I need to start and finish before Santa gets here…’tis the season for rushing projects, isn’t it?
